Talking about the reasons for the problems of the agricultural sector, that at the policy level, the governments have continuously neglected this sector and in the past fifteen and twenty years, no sustainable policy has been brought except for temporary policies. There could be a significant increase in the efficiency of the sector.

Dr. Hafeez Pasha said, “If we take the data of two or three years, the prices of the agricultural sector increased by six percent, but the input cost increased by more than 35 percent, due to which the profit decreased a lot.”

He said, “If we take the prices of the most important fertilizer in the agricultural sector, they are forty percent less in India than in Pakistan, because the government there provides a subsidy of fifteen billion dollars annually, while on the other hand in Pakistan it is Fifteen percent taxes.’

It should happen that the country should import sugar and export cotton, but the opposite happened. Sugar mill owners first imposed a 50 percent tax on sugar imports to prevent sugar from being imported and to sell their own sugar in the local market at their own rates, but when the government saw that it was in short supply, it We had to import sugar.’

Shamsul Islam said in this regard that the main reason for the shortage of wheat is its being smuggled into Afghanistan. He said, “Similarly, we have been on wheat production for many years between 26 to 27 million tons.” He further said that there is also a difference in the labor force working in the agricultural sector of Pakistan and India.

The farmer in India is developing his work on modern methods but the farmer in Pakistan is still stuck to the traditional method which is not increasing his production.
